Kitsune Defense Green.png

The logo behind Kitsune Defense was carefully crafted to be a symbol and beacon of empowerment.

THE COLOR

PURPLE not only stands for domestic violence awareness, but it symbolizes creativity, wisdom and power. It can also encourage peace, self-knowledge and the understanding of our innermost thoughts. Psychologically, purple both calms (stability of blue) and stimulates (fierceness of red) our bodies, providing a balance which can be witnessed in most martial arts.

GREEN stands for mental health. The meaning behind the color represents life and growth. It is restful and relaxing to the human eye, fostering positive outcomes and a therapeutic edge. Psychologically, green enhances stability, endurance, renewal, hopefulness and balance.

TEAL represents sexual assault. The unique hue embodies a fusion of calmness and vitality. It's symbolism is rooted in balance, growth, and rejuvenation. The color signifies tranquility and introspection, a beacon of hope for survivors, informed by a deep understanding of emotional sensitivity and empowerment. It offers solace and strength in the journey toward healing.

Colors like purple, green and teal are associated with a Trauma-Informed design, allowing the expression of openness, safeness, and calmness.

THE MASK

The KITSUNE (k-it-soo-nay) mask, steeped in Japanese tradition, holds profound symbolism for women. Beyond it's folklore origins, it serves as a powerful emblem of feminine strength, resilience, and agency. The Kitsune, often depicted as a shape-shifting fox spirit, mirrors the multifaceted nature of women, embodying both nurturing warmth and fierce independence. Through its enigmatic gaze, the mas celebrates the complexity and empowerment of the feminine spirit, inviting wearers to embrace their own inner wisdom and adaptability.

THE SYMBOL

The TORII GATE symbolizes the transition from a secular or mundane world to the sacred. The boundary is a protection of the deities, and one must bow to show respect before passing through. Traditionally, the gates are painted red as a symbol for vitality and protection against evil.

THE WEAPONS

The double KATANAS represent the fight to not only prevent violence, but the fight to overcome it when it happens. The katana is considered to be the world’s best sword, symbolizing unmatched versatility and strength. Everything from the blade length to the production process has made the katana the weapon of choice for centuries. It is sharp and strong enough to cut through pretty much anything if crafted correctly.

So, what does this all mean?

Kitsune defense symbolizes a multifaceted approach to women's trauma with sexual assault and domestic violence, incorporating elements of strength, protection, and empowerment. The Kitsune mask represents resilience and transformation, acknowledging the complexity of experiences and the ability to adapt and overcome. The torii gate serves as a barrier against harm, offering a sense of security and sanctuary. The katanas symbolize both defense and agency, emphasizing the importance of taking control of one's own narrative and reclaiming personal power. Together, these symbols convey a message of healing, empowerment, and the strength to confront and overcome adversity.

Most of the time, we wear a mask to protect from others, but from ourselves as well. It’s easier to wear a mask and pretend everything is okay than to face the truth of traumatic events. We, unfortunately, live in a society that makes it difficult to use our voice to even express our experiences properly.

This is why Kitsune Defense was created:

  • To remind everyone there is a place for you to feel safe and valued.

  • To give everyone the opportunity to wear their mask or take it off when they’re ready, not when the world says they are.

  • To share guidance, that with every experience comes wisdom and strength.

  • To empower everyone by giving them the proper tools and resources to protect themselves.

  • To deliver exceptional education, training and help to everyone become better versions of themselves.

The most important part about any one person’s journey isn't the mask,

but the strength underneath.
